From the Prez!
The August meeting of the Keystone Kruisers Car Club was held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Cabin Green Golf Club. The kitchen staff prepared a Southern style picnic buffet with chicken wings, ribs, cole slaw, watermelon, and all the fixin's! Ya'all shoulda been there, since it was finger lickin good!
For those of you that were unable to attend the meeting, here is a brief recap of what went on:
The President reported on the final stats of the Club Cruise. A total of 68 cruisers attended, despite the rain. The 50/50 winner, Frank SMITH, of North Washington, PA, took home $256.00. The big $500.00 winner was Evan LUCAS, of East Brady, PA, in a 1986 Chevrolet truck. Evan was also last years runner-up in the student division.
Probably due to the weather, there were no student participants in attendance. By consensus, it was decided to award the trophy as a President's Choice Award. The President, Vice President and Secretary perused the vehicles, debated, and finally awarded the prize to Russ GRANTZ, of Vandergrift, PA, in a 1951 Mercury Coupe. Second place went to Bob BERGBIGLER, of Butler, PA, in a 1954 Chevrolet truck. Congrats to all winners!
The Ice Cream Poker Run plans are complete. Tracy and Terry YOCKEY produced the itinerary and presented members with a complete packet of information, such as will be provided to all participants. Tracy made a great presentation and covered all the bases. There has been a great deal of interest in the event from other clubs, and we anticipate a good turnout. Remember the date: Saturday, August 16th. See the flyer in the "Events" section of our website. Thanks to Tracy and Terry for all the hard work they have put into this affair.
The club picnic will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Russ and Shirley COLLAR residence in Cowansville. This is the same location as in past years. Any persons needing directions, call, e-mail, shout, or sent smoke signals to any board member. We'll getcha there! The picnic starts at 3:00PM, and we put on the feed bag at 5. The club will provide fried chicken, fish, and hot dogs. Bring a covered dish to share, your lawn chairs, and be ready to play cut throat corn-hole and other exciting lawn games. There will be a fire at the end of the day to relax before the drive home. This is always a great day, so plan now to attend!
Saturday, August 23rd, is the AACA picnic. It will be held at the BAKER residence in Worthington. All Keystone Kruisers members are welcome. Call Bobbi JENSEN for further information. Also on August 23rd, the Cabin Green Golf Club will hold the first FootGolf event in Western Pennsylvania. This is a new sport in which players use a soccer ball instead of a golf ball and kick, run, dive, headbutt, and/or whatever, to put the ball in the hole! They request that our members come with cruise cars, and a special location will be provided for parking. If you can, go on over and check it out!
On September 14, 2014, from noon until 4:00 pm, the AACA has committed to put on a cruise at Walmart in the Hill Top Plaza. The Keystone Kruisers, by hand vote, agreed to help out. In return, our club will receive 50% of the profits for our annual Christmas giving gift. Remember, Saturday, September 14th is the Walmart cruise. Please try to attend and help out. We need the manpower.
There will be no regular meeting in September, as we shall meet at the aforementioned picnic. The next regular meeting will be held on Thursday, October 2nd, 2014 at Cabin Green. Six o'clock to eat, and the meeting starts at seven.
As our membership has continued to grow, so has the fun. Plan to attend any future event and see for yourself that when like-minded people get together to either shoot the breeze, or strive for a common goal, the results are both fun and satisfying.
Remember to check the Keystone Kruisers website for cruises and other information. If you click on an underlined area, a flyer of the event will appear (just like magic!) Vice President JOHNSON does a yeoman's job of keeping it current.
Remember, this is your club. Attend, participate and keep it going strong.
See ya at the cruises, and stay safe.
Greetings all Cruisers!:
The First Annual Keystone Kruisers Ice Cream Poker Run was held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 3:00PM until 8:00PM.
The weather was beautiful, and the drivers and riders were hungry! There were 18 cars participating, and all said that they had a great time!
All entrants completed the run and stopped at all five predesignated ice cream stops. The only complaint was, " I ate too much ice cream. My belly hurts!"
There was one carload that had such a good time, they asked for a membership application, and one guy stopped in to see what was going on, became interested, and, he too, asked for a membership application! We hope they consider joining our little family!
The winner of the poker run was Dave POWERS, of Rural Valley, PA, with a hand of three (3) tens, jack high! His take was $45.00. The 50/50 winner was Jackie PROTULIPAC, of Worthington, PA. Congrats to all winners!
A BIG THANKS to Terry and Tracy YOCKEY for all the hard work and time that they put into making the Ice Cream Run a reality. All the effort paid off, as the whole she-bang went off like clockwork. Thanks again.
On another note, some of the participants were members of the Shannock Valley AACA and they told us that The Shannock Valley Car Club (AACA) will be holding a judged car show at the Shannock Valley Community Park, located on RT 85 in Rural Valley, on Saturday, September 6, 2014.
Registration begins at 9:00AM, judging starts about noon and trophies will be awarded at 4:00PM.
All proceeds to benefit the Rural Valley VFD. This is a good cause, so let's see if we can help support other clubs! I have attended this cruise in the past, and the food was good, and the cars were awesome!
Further information can be found on our website. Click on the underlined portion and see their flyer magically appear!
As this cruise season draws to an end, remember that winter, ice and snow are not too far away. Let's get out and CRUISE!
Until we meet on the road or at a cruise, stay safe!
